Aston Villa make contact over Barcelona target who has been compared to Lionel Messi already

Aston Villa are one of the Premier League sides which have made a real promising start to this summer’s transfer window.

Unai Emery has already seen five players come through the doors at Villa Park this summer as he prepares for a season in the Champions League.

Villa have also waved goodbye to one of their starting midfielders with Douglas Luiz making the move to Juventus.

However, there could be even more players to arrive over the coming weeks as Emery really looks to bolster his options.

The Villans are now in talks over their sixth potential arrival of the summer but face competition from another Premier League side and Barcelona for his signature.

Aston Villa open talks for in-demand forward

Villa managed to secure Champions League football last season after beating Tottenham Hotspur to the line by just two points.

But Emery’s side are going to need a squad filled with quality if they are going to compete on all fronts this season.

The Villans were able to put together a solid European run in the Europa Conference League but came undone in the semi final.

Fine tuning this side and adding more quality options could take Villa to another level where they can keep up Champions League qualification whilst also putting in a solid showing in Europe.

According to , Aston Villa have now entered talks with Toluca for winger Maximiliano Araujo this summer.

But Villa are not alone in their pursuit of the Uruguayan forward with Nottingham Forest also said to have made opening contact over the 24-year-old.

However, both Premier League sides will be well aware that Barcelona have been keeping an eye on the winger during this summer’s Copa America campaign.

All the clubs interested are aware that Toluca are not looking to negotiate and are expecting the €20m (£17m)release clause to be met.

Maximiliano Araujo turning heads at Copa America

On the pitch, Araujo has defenders spinning and away from it he is turning heads of the teams watching on this summer.

Under the guidance of Marcelo Bielsa, Araujo is seriously impressing in the Uruguay side having returned two goals and an assist in his opening three Copa America appearances.

The report from Spain has even likened the winger’s style of play to none other than Lionel Messi as he dazzles in South America.

Competition for the winger’s signature is heating up but Villa will be set for a difficult time if they are looking to strike a bargain with the Mexican side.
