Aston Villa linked with Ashley Williams but Kortney Hause, Tyrone Mings and Axel Tuanzebe are better targets
Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing Everton defender Ashley Williams. , Williams is a summer target for Aston Villa when his Everton contract expires.
The 34-year-old has spent the season on loan at Stoke City, racking up 37 appearances for the lower-mid-table Championship side.
Aston Villa do need some new centre-backs in the summer transfer window. Their current options face uncertain futures after this season.
Kortney Hause, Tyrone Mings and Axel Tuanzebe are all on loan, while Tommy Elphick and Mile Jedinak are out of contract this summer.
But Williams would be an underwhelming addition to join James Chester at the back. Instead, Dean Smith needs to look at his current loan trio.

Mings has been inspirational since his January loan arrival. The towering 26-year-old is out of favour at Bournemouth and likely to move on this summer.
With two goals in 15 games for Aston Villa, Mings has been immense at the back and is the perfect ball-playing centre-back for the long-term future.
And he has partnered either Hause or Tuanzebe with both of those also impressing.
Hause is currently out injured but he formed a solid partnership with Mings before that. The 23-year-old is not wanted by Wolves and could also be available this summer.
Tuanzebe has been in good form since his return from injury recently. Manchester United might see a future for him but another loan spell could be on the cards if a permanent deal if not feasible.
Rather than looking at Williams, Aston Villa should look at keeping their current defensive trio who are starring on loan.
