Report: Aston Villa want Leicester City outcast Islam Slimani

Aston Villa are keen to sign Leicester City flop Islam Slimani to ease their growing list of injury concerns,

The Algerian international is on fire for Monaco in Ligue 1 and Villa are keen to hand him another stab at the Premier League.

Slimani has netted six goals and registered seven assists during 2019/20, with Monaco sat eighth in the table.

The 31-year-old is on loan in France but is questioning his future having recently lost his place in the starting eleven.

If he returns to Leicester he will almost certainly seek another move away from the King Power, with Villa ready and waiting to pounce.

Slimani hasn’t really made the grade at Leicester. He signed for £29 million back in 2016  but managed just 13 goals in 46 appearances, featuring largely as a backup option.

Villa are in the market for a new striker. Wesley has been ruled out for the rest of the season with an ACL injury picked up in a game against Burnley.

Dean Smith’s team were thumped 6-1 yesterday by Manchester City, highlighting the need for new players.

TBR View – Desperate times call for desperate measures

Slimani isn’t really a signing that will excite the Villa faithful. They will need an exciting addition to come through the door and the Algerian perhaps isn’t that signing.

Desperate times do indeed call for desperate measures, however, and Slimani might be worth a punt.

The Leicester man is similar in build to Wesley and possesses similar attributes when it comes to holding up the ball.

That might bode well and it’s fair to say a striker is badly needed at Villa Park.
