Aston Villa could use transfer loophole to beat Everton to ‘ridiculous’ £16m player
Aston Villa could reportedly beat Everton to one of the most sought-after players in the country due to a unique transfer condition Unai Emery’s side possesses.
The Villans have been the busiest team in the Premier League this summer in regards to new signings, with Emery and sporting director Mochi already bringing in the likes of Samuel Iling-Junior, Ian Maatsen and Ross Barkley.
With Atletico Madrid attacker Joao Felix also believed to be on Villa’s radar, the Villa Park side are seemingly doing all they can to bolster their squad ahead of their return to the UEFA Champions League next season.
And Villa could now be about to beat the likes of Everton to a top talent from the Championship.

Villa activate clause to sign Everton target Jaden Philogene
According to Fabrizio Romano, Villa have activated their matching rights clause for Hull City winger Jaden Philogene, who joined the Tigers from Villa Park last year, with the likes of Everton and Ipswich Town since bidding £16m to sign the forward.
Romano wrote: “Aston Villa have activated the matching rights clause for Jaden Philogene after Ipswich Town bid. If Hull City receive higher bids from elsewhere, Aston Villa must decide whether to stay in the process. Ipswich Town keep insisting, same for Crystal Palace and Everton.”
A matching rights clause means that Hull must alert Villa how much has been bid for Philogene in the event of the forward behind subject to an offer, with Emery’s side then offered the chance to match whatever is on the table for the 22-year-old.
With Villa activating their clause, there’s a good chance that Philogene could now be heading back to Villa Park, even with reports suggesting that a move to Ipswich had been wrapped up, along with Everton reaching a rumoured agreement.

Philogene returning to Villa Park would be a good move
It’s clear that Villa got it wrong when it came to selling Philogene, who since moving to Hull has established himself as one of the most entertaining players in the Championship, with Micah Richards labelling the forward as ‘ridiculous’ to watch.
And a return to Villa could be a good move for all parties, with Emery showing last season with Morgan Rogers that the former Villarreal boss is willing to give youth a chance if they can show their quality on the pitch.
Moreover, another European campaign means attacking numbers are needed at Villa Park, and Philogene returning for as little as £16m could be a steal for the Villians heading into the new season.
