Chelsea player would represent quality Aston Villa business if they win promotion
Aston Villa might not know what division they will ply their trade in next season yet, but targets are already emerging on the recruitment side of things.
Given the stature of the club, it is only natural that players will start getting linked with moves Villa Park.
One man who could be available this summer is Chelsea skipper Gary Cahill. The central defender has played just eight times this season and will see his contract expire during the summer.
The 33-year-old started his career at Villa, emerging through the youth ranks and featuring 30 times for the first-team. He left in 2008 to sign for Bolton Wanderers where he spent four years.

Available on a free transfer this summer, Cahill would be an astute acquisition for Villa should they win promotion via the play-offs.
The club is close to Cahill’s heart and his experience would be a massive asset to a relatively young back four.
Given his age, the Champions League winner will need to choose his next move carefully. Cahill has spent most of the season on the bench and he needs to be playing regularly at his next club.

Villa’s central defensive pairing of Kortney Hause and Tyrone Mings have really excelled during the second half of the season. Should the team win promotion, some more experience could be called for, however.
Cahill’s wage demands would scupper any move to Villa should they fail to win promotion. If the Villans do reach the promised land of the Premier League, however, the signing of the ex-England defender makes perfect sense.
