Aston Villa fans react to Sunday announcement regarding Dean Smith

Aston Villa have this afternoon parted company with Dean Smith. The head coach departs after just over three years in charge of his boyhood club.

Smith leaves after five consecutive defeats, with the latest coming on Friday night at Southampton.

Villa will now go in search of a new manager and will hope to have something sorted following the international break.

The Villans desperately need a change in fortunes and will hope a new manager can kick-start their season.

Smith was ultimately extremely proud to manage his boyhood club.

He achieved great things in the West Midlands, helping the club back to the Premier League after two years in the Championship.

Smith took over a club that were 14th in the second tier and ultimately revived their fortunes.

The former boss proved a likeable manager and as one of their own, he was well respected by the fan base.

What have Villa fans said about Smith?

It does seem clear that supporters think this is the right decision. That said, it’s not one that doesn’t come without heartache.

The Villans were Smith’s club and he will hurt him deeply that he hasn’t been able to continue in his role.

Football is a results-based business though and sadly for the former Villa incumbent, he’s had to fall on his sword.
