Aston Villa fans react to Ahmed Elmohamady substitution

For the second successive game, Aston Villa players and fans felt disappointed at the final whistle. It was a tough result to take against Arsenal on Sunday and some fans are pointing to one substitution as the game-changer.

After bringing Ahmed Elmohamady on against 10-man West Ham, Dean Smith decided to do the same against 10-man Arsenal. But this backfired as Arsenal completed a comeback despite their numerical disadvantage.

Aston Villa led through John McGinn and then Arsenal were reduced to 10 men after Ainsley Maitland-Niles was dismissed. Nicolas Pepe scored his first Arsenal goal from the spot to bring the hosts level but Wesley Moraes quickly fired the visitors back ahead.

At this point, Smith decided to introduce Elmohamady. The Egypt international is versatile and is considered a better defensive unit than his fellow countryman Trezeguet. But it failed to work.

Arsenal scored two late goals through Calum Chambers and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to take all three points. Aston Villa fans retrospectively vented their frustration at the Elmohamady substitution after the game. Here are the best tweets.
