Aston Villa fans react as club linked with Brighton defender Lewis Dunk

Aston Villa have been somewhat surprisingly linked with a move for Brighton & Hove Albion defender Lewis Dunk – and Villa fans have reacted on Twitter to the news, by urging their club to land him.

that Villa are in the running to land the 27-year-old, who is valued at a whopping £30million. He once again shone alongside Shane Duffy at the heart of the Brighton defence.

Indeed, the performances of both Duffy and Dunk were crucial in Brighton remaining in the Premier League last season, as they escaped the clutches of relegation by the narrowest of margins.

Now, Dunk has been linked with a move away from Brighton this summer, with many of the belief that he can play at a higher level. It makes Villa’s reported interest somewhat surprising, after just being promoted to the top flight.

Dean Smith’s side have already signed Jota from Birmingham City, Wesley Moraes from Club Brugge and Anwar El Ghazi from Lille – spending north of £30million on all three.

But centre-back is likely to be Smith’s next priority, after Tommy Elphick’s contract expired while Tyrone Mings, Kortney Hause and Axel Tuanzebe returned to their parent clubs. Mings and Hause have been linked with a return.

Smith looks likely to add to his options at the back though and Villa fans seemed excited on Twitter after the club were linked with an ambitious move for Dunk.
