Aston Villa eyeing ‘devastating’ £26m attacker likened to Mohamed Salah
Aston Villa have reportedly been eyeing Genoa forward Albert Gudmundsson for a long time.
A report from Italy has now provided an update on the Villans‘ interest in the Iceland international.
According to , Villa and Premier League rivals West Ham have been keeping tabs on Gudmundsson ‘for some time’.
However, both the Villans and the Hammers could now be up against Serie A giants Juventus and Inter Milan in pursuit of the 26-year-old.
Gudmundsson isn’t expected to be up for grabs in the January transfer window, and the article suggests there’ll be competition in the summer.
In terms of price, the likes of Villa, West Ham, Juve and Inter will likely have to pay at least €30million (£26million) if they want to sign the player.

Aston Villa target Albert Gudmundsson is ‘an exemplary professional’
Gudmundsson progressed through the ranks of Dutch football, playing for the likes of PSV Eindhoven and AZ before joining Genoa in 2022 for a reported £1million.
The Iceland international played a key role in their promotion from Serie B in 2022-23, scoring 11 goals and providing five assists in 36 games.
He has continued to develop and, this season, he has caught the eye of scouts from the likes of Villa and West Ham with 10 goals and three assists from 20 club outings.
Gudmundsson is a versatile player who has featured in central midfield, No. 10, both flanks, second striker and even centre-forward in his .
Late last year, teammate Kevin Strootman said the reported Villa target reminded him of Mohamed Salah when he was at Roma.
Not quite the finished product, Strootman seemed to suggest to Il Secolo XIX – via – but still a “devastating player and an exemplary professional”.
For less than £30million, Villa should certainly consider making a move in the summer. Indeed, they could always make enquiries now to see if the heads of the club and the player can be turned.
