Aston Villa could now be preparing to sell Jhon Duran to West Ham as interesting decision made
West Ham have been trying to sign Jhon Duran from Aston Villa for almost an entire month now.
The Hammers were first linked with Duran at the beginning of July when a story from broke.
West Ham have since seen two bids for the Colombia international rejected, the most recent of which was worth £32m plus Lewis Orford – according to Fabrizio Romano – although Aston Villa are holding out for £40m.
That stance has led Duran to become frustrated at Villa Park – as he hopes to secure a move to West Ham.
Now – however – Aston Villa may be preparing to sell the South American to West Ham after an interesting decision was made…
Aston Villa open talks with Jean-Philippe Mateta
A story from the now claims that Aston Villa have made contact to sign Crystal Palace No.14 Jean-Philippe Mateta.
The Frenchman was one of the most prolific strikers in Europe in the second half of last season, remarkably scoring 13 goals in the final 13 Premier League games of the 2023/24 campaign.
Three of those came when Mateta scored a hat-trick in Crystal Palace’s 5-0 win over Aston Villa on the final day, and his efforts appear to have charmed the Villans into making a move.

The Express believe Crystal Palace are struggling to agree a new contract with the man from Sevran, and he is also tempted by the chance to play UEFA Champions League football, so a move to Villa Park could be on.
West Ham could soon land Jhon Duran
If Aston Villa had no intention of selling Duran, we doubt an enquiry for Mateta would have been made.
That decision suggests Monchi – Director of Football at Villa Park – has been tasked with finding the Colombian’s replacement.

The positive signs involving Mateta – such as his contract situation and desire to play UEFA Champions League football – mean a deal is certainly possible, so it may not be long until we see Duran playing in claret and blue for a different club.
