Aston Villa are ‘frontrunners’ to land £30m Liverpool player in the final few days of the transfer window
Aston Villa have been one of the busier Premier League sides up until this point in the summer transfer window, as Unai Emery has welcomed eight new faces.
The majority of the money Aston Villa have spent was on Ian Maatsen and Amadou Onana, who both joined for a combined £87.5 million.
However, the Douglas Luiz deal already appears to be a disaster as Samuel Iling-Junior is undergoing his medical to join Bologna on loan, while Enzo Barrenchea is also surplus to requirements.
But, there’s still business to be done with Dominic Calvert-Lewin attracting interest from Villa and Raheem Sterling another player being eyed by Emery.
And, David Lynch believes that the Midlands club are leading the race for a different player, as things hot up…
Aston Villa the ‘frontrunners’ to sign £30m star in the final days
According to whilst speaking in an interview with the Anfield Agenda, Aston Villa are the frontrunners to sign Joe Gomez from Liverpool before the deadline.
“Aston Villa are right up there as frontrunners for him. I just think it makes so much sense from all parties. I think for Aston Villa they do need a centre half at the moment, and that’s why they’re really looking at Joe Gomez. We could see an acceleration of that in the coming days.”
However, it won’t be easy as Chelsea, Fulham and Newcastle also want Joe Gomez.
The defender, who is valued at £30 million, is open to the idea of leaving as he goes on in search of regular game time, so there won’t be any worries with trying to persuade him.

Where does Joe Gomez fit in at Aston Villa?
Aston Villa currently have five centre-backs on their books. These are Kortney Hause, Tyrone Mings, Diego Carlos, Pau Torres and Ezri Konsa.
However, Mings spent the majority of last season out injured and Hause hasn’t played for the Villans since September 2022, so they can’t be relied upon right now.
With Villa back in the Champions League, Joe Gomez can bring that calmness and experience having played in those big occasions at Anfield and he has a European trophy to show for it.
Another issue that Emery won’t have to worry about is adaptability in the Premier League as the 27-year-old has 170 appearances to his name.
