Aston Villa and Wolves both tried to sign £9m Tottenham player in January
Aston Villa and Wolves both tried to sign Tottenham wonderkid Lucas Bergvall in January.
That is according to Fotboll Direkt.
So, what was the situation involving Aston Villa and Wolves as Tottenham eventually landed Lucas Bergvall? Let’s take a look…
Aston Villa and Wolves tried to sign Bergvall
Well, the Sweden international made a shock move to Spurs on transfer deadline day.
However – according to – Aston Villa and Wolves both made attempts to sign Bergvall before his move to north London was confirmed, with the pair of Midlanders even offering more money to Djurgarden than Tottenham.
Barcelona were also keen to sign the 18-year-old.
Ultimately – as detailed by Fotboll Direkt – Aston Villa and Wolves made their respective approaches too late in the day, as Bergvall had already told Spurs he would join.

The teenager is believed to have been left flattered by interest from Unai Emery and Gary O’Neil, and allegedly told both clubs that he could not possibly change his mind at that stage of the transfer window.
Tottenham have found a gem in Bergvall
In our view, Tottenham have found a diamond in the Swedish wonderkid.
Not only is Bergvall a tremendous footballer – he has to Jude Bellingham – but he is clearly a loyal figure who stays true to his word.

As aforesaid, Wolves and Aston Villa actually put more money on the table – which would have landed the Swede a larger cut of the transfer fee – although he opted to stay loyal to Tottenham after already striking a verbal agreement with Spurs.
To us, that says a lot about Bergvall’s mentality, and a senior debut is surely not far away – there could even be an opening for him under Ange Postecoglou this summer as Giovani Lo Celso looks set to depart for Galatasaray.
