Aston Villa and Newcastle both eyeing ‘sensational’ £54m attacker who’s open to Premier League switch

Aston Villa have enjoyed a strong start to the season but further improvements are seemingly on the mind of Unai Emery.

Despite throwing away two points at the death on the weekend, Aston Villa remain in the top four with 18 points on the board.

It has not just been in the Premier League where Emery‘s side have impressed with Villa also sat top of the Champions League table.

The same cannot be said for Newcastle United who suffered another defeat on the weekend at the hands of Chelsea.

Eddie Howe‘s side did not fair well in the summer transfer window with no significant new signings coming through the doors on Tyneside.

But there is one player who Newcastle and Villa are both said to be monitoring ahead of the upcoming windows.

Aston Villa and Newcastle eye £54m winger

There has been some positive news on Tyneside recently with Anthony Gordon signing a new contract at Newcastle.

However, Newcastle were keen to add a new winger to their squad over the summer but were unable to get anything over the line.

The Toon will, however, face some serious competition for one of the players who they reportedly have on their radar.

According to , Aston Villa and Newcastle are both monitoring the Villarreal winger Alex Baena.

He is now believed to have grown a €65m (£54m) price tag due to his dazzling displays for the Spanish outfit.

The 23-year-old has been able to return one goal and five assists in La Liga already this season just months after lifting the European Championship in the summer.

Baena has been hailed as ‘sensational’ already with his performances continuing to bump up his price tag ahead of next summer’s transfer window.

But tempting the player to join the Premier League does not seem like an issue with Baena open to the prospect of making the move to England.

Newcastle would prefer to sign right-winger

Over the summer, there was a lot of speculation surrounding the future of the England international with Liverpool having shown a real interested in Gordon.

But it seems as if the Newcastle ace is now committed on Tyneside, for now.

With this in mind, TBR Football understands there is a greater interest from the Toon in addressing their weaknesses on the other flank.

As for Villa, Emery has been a big fan of Baena since his time at Villareal where the winger was able to return 10 goals and eight assists in 37 appearances.
