Aston Villa and Newcastle are both eyeing move for £60m defender who’s been likened to Josko Gvardiol
Although only seven games have been played in the 2024/25 Premier League campaign, Aston Villa and Newcastle United already have their eyes potential additions.
It has been a solid start for both sides in the league after two completely contrasting summer transfer windows.
Unai Emery’s Aston Villa acted on their success in the 2023/24 campaign with the Spaniard handed a number of new signings.
However, that was not the case at Newcastle with Eddie Howe left waiting all summer to see a big addition brought in on Tyneside.
The lack of signings has seen tension grow between Howe and the sporting director Paul Mitchell at St James’ Park.
But it seems the Toon are looking to rival the likes of Aston Villa to the signing of one seriously promising defender.

Aston Villa and Newcastle eyeing £60m defender
Only two points separate the two sides in the Premier League with their first meeting of the campaign to come on Boxing Day.
Although Newcastle are unable to boast any form of European football this season, they are still looking to rival Aston Villa in the transfer market.
According to , Aston Villa and Newcastle are both showing an interest in the RB Leipzig defender Castello Lukeba.
However, the two Premier League sides are going to face some serious competition if they are going to land the defedner.
Chelsea, Manchester City and Real Madrid are also said to be keen on the French centre-back ahead of the upcoming transfer windows.
And to add to their struggles, Leipzig are believed to be eyeing an offer in the region of £60m for the defender given the high levels of interest in him.
Castello Lukeba has been likened to Josko Gvardiol
The 21-year-old defender has become a regular in the starting XI for the German outfit with regular appearances coming in the Champions League, too.
In his five Bundesliga appearances, Leipzig have been able to keep four clean sheets with the centre-back also steering clear of the referee’s book.
His impressive displays for the German side has even seen him receive comparison to former Leipzig and current City defender Josko Gvardiol.
In the ‘s player profile, Lukeba’s talent is likened to the Croatian who departed Leipzig back last summer.
