‘Ashworth trying to work his magic’: Newcastle are now working on a very exciting January transfer – journalist
Journalist Ben Jacobs has issued an update in Newcastle’s interest in West Ham United defender Harrison Ashby.
Jacobs told that Dan Ashworth is trying to work some of his magic and sign Ashby when the transfer window opens next month.
He said that the Magpies are trying to exploit the defender’s contract situation at West Ham, and said it may just end up working.

Jacobs on Newcastle interest in Ashby
Jacobs said of Ashby: “Great player and another type of signing that allows Newcastle to forward plan.
“He is 21 years of age and hasn’t had much of an opportunity at West Ham. This is Dan Ashworth trying to work his magic and sign a young ace and see if West Ham are prepared to sell.
“I think we will have to wait and see on this one. I know everyone got very excited if you’re a Newcastle fan and annoyed if you’re a West Ham fan.
“But what I do understand is that there is no new contract at West Ham yet which is the big thing which is causing alarm there.
“Six months ago, West Ham were confident on tying him down for the long run, from West Ham’s point of view they think he’s one of the most talented players to come through their academy in quite some time.”
Newcastle have prioritised young, hungry players with their new riches and have avoided the traps of taking big-name players on huge wages.
Ashby would fit into their model neatly if they can convince him to swap east London for the north east and join their exciting project.
It remains to be seen how this one plays out; there will be more eye-catching rumours but this one might be a smart piece of business and Ashworth’s nous should be exciting for Newcastle fans.
