As well as UEFA Super Cup vs PSG, Tottenham have a chance to win another rare trophy after renewed partnership

PSG will meet Tottenham in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday 13th August after the French giants defeated Inter Milan 5-0 in the UEFA Champions League final.

A double from Desire Doue – who Spurs wanted to sign – along with goals from Achraf Hakimi, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Senny Mayuly helped to humiliate the Italian side in Munich, and set up a clash with Tottenham inside the Stadio Friuli in Udine, Italy.

However, this rare chance at silverware might not be the only unique, one-off game Tottenham find themselves playing this summer.

Tottenham could partake in the UEFA–CONMEBOL Club Challenge

The UEFA–CONMEBOL Club Challenge is a match organised by UEFA and CONMEBOL between the winners of the UEFA Europa League and the champions of the CONMEBOL Sudamericana.

There were initially just two games, with Sevilla losing 1-0 to River Plate in 2015 before the Spanish side beat Santa Fe 2-1 in 2016.

However, the match then disappeared until UEFA and CONMEBOL signed a ‘renewed memorandum of understanding’ in February 2020 to improve relations between the two organisations.

Sevilla – once again winners of the UEFA Europa League – then took on Independiente del Valle in 2023, emerging victorious on penalties.

UEFA–CONMEBOL Club Challenge did not happen in 2024

There was, however, no UEFA–CONMEBOL Club Challenge in 2024, with scheduling issues rumoured to have prevented the match from taking place.

Having said that, UEFA EURO 2024 took place last summer, as did the Copa America and the Olympic Games, so it was a highly difficult period for the UEFA–CONMEBOL Club Challenge to coexist in, and it could return this summer.

There is even a page for the competition on the official website, so we would presume there are plans to play the match this summer if time can be found to do so.

Tottenham, who met with Marco Silva recently, have never been involved in the UEFA–CONMEBOL Club Challenge, let alone won it, so having failed to win a trophy since 2008 before last season, Spurs could soon have a chance to snap up two more pieces of silverware in quick succession.
