As Jadon Sancho continues to impress, Liverpool should reconsider their stance
Jadon Sancho continued his excellent form this weekend, proving again why clubs like Liverpool and Chelsea are interested in the winger.
The young England star has been electric for Dortmund this term. His contribution on Friday night for the German side means Sancho has now contributed to 22 goals in his last 17 appearances. ()
Within those goals, Sancho has scored 11 himself. With Erling Haaland now on the books at Dortmund too, things are looking up for the Bundesliga giants when it comes to their future.
However, Liverpool have reportedly cooled their interest in Sancho. A report from the in December claimed the Reds were no longer pursuing a deal for the 19-year-old.
But surely his recent form has to be keeping Liverpool interested? After all, they could well have the pick of the world’s best talent in the summer once they win the Premier League.
A true wonderkid
The term ‘wonderkid’ is often branded about in football without much substance. Quite often we see young talents briefly come to the fore and then seemingly slip away into the wilderness.
However, with Sancho, it’s a completely different story. He was a revelation last season and his form has got even better this term.
With the Euros approaching, Sancho is bound to be a key man for England. A successful tournament, then, will only add further value to him.
That’s why Liverpool might be best making their move now. They are European champions, on course to win the league, and play the sort of attacking football that suits Sancho.
Capable of disrupting the ‘big three’
While many will say Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, and Mo Salah are undroppable when it comes to the Liverpool XI, Sancho is one player who could dislodge them.
Furthermore, the club needs to invest in its future. Salah, Mane, and Firmino won’t last forever as a front three.
Just as important as it is to be competing now, is the importance of being able to continue to compete.
Jadon Sancho has already proven himself more than capable. He can play off either wing and, over time, might even develop to a more central role as Raheem Sterling does at times for Man City.
If ever there was a time for Liverpool to strike for Sancho, then that time is now.
