As club prepare to slash £30 million asking price, Newcastle must not be tempted

Chelsea are reportedly prepared to sell winger Kenedy for a cut-price fee this summer – but Newcastle United should not be tempted.

The Brazilian winger majorly disappointed in 2018/19 following a successful stint at St. James’ Park last season.

The 23-year-old just wasn’t able to get going for the Magpies. He made just 27 appearances in total after losing his place in the team around midway through the campaign.

Rafa Benitez switching to a formation that deploys wing backs did not help his cause, and the January acquisition of Miguel Almiron effectively ended his hopes of getting back into the side.

Chelsea placed a £30 million valuation on the player last summer but are now said to be willing to let him go in a cut-price deal ().

TBR’s view

Newcastle are expected not to try and sign Kenedy permanently, and the club should stick by that despite Chelsea’s apparent openness to a cheaper deal.

The Brazilian simply wasn’t at the races in 2018/19 and showed a real lack of consistency in the final third.

There is no clamour amongst the fans to see him re-signed, and surely Newcastle’s tight budget can be used better this summer.

Kenedy had plenty of chances to shine but didn’t produce the goods as they had hoped.

Even if available on the cheap, he is not a player for Newcastle to be putting their faith in.
