Arteta reportedly under consideration to replace Koeman at Barcelona
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is reportedly an option to replace Ronald Koeman at FC Barcelona.
, the Gunners boss is one of the names in contention to replace the former Netherlands manager at the La Liga giants. Arteta coming through Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy before moving to Rangers in 2002.
As well as Arteta, Xavi and Roberto Martinez are on Barcelona’s list of potential candidates to replace Koeman this summer. The report states that the Catalan giants have ‘studied’ the Arsenal boss and that his relationship with Pep Guardiola is a promising endorsement for the 39-year-old.
Arteta has had a mixed spell since taking over the Arsenal job in late 2019. The former club captain led the Gunners to the 2020 FA Cup, yet the north London side have finished eighth in the Premier League table in both seasons under the Basque-born coach.
Arsenal was also eliminated from the UEFA Europa League this season by former manager Unai Emery at the semi-final stage. The result and the Gunners’ Premier League standing means the club will have no European football next season for the first time in 26 years.

No European football for the first time in a quarter of a century might be seen as a huge indicator that Arsenal are heading in the wrong direction under Arteta. But peel behind the curtain a little, and there are signs that the former Manchester City coach is slowly starting to get things right with the north London club.
Indeed, there is plenty of support on both sides as to why Arteta should both stay and go, but since the Gunners’ Boxing Day win over Chelsea, only two clubs in the Premier League have picked up more points in the division than Arsenal.
A torrid run from November to that 3-1 win over the Blues doomed Arsenal’s season, yet they managed to bounce back from that slump in some style.
And with the Gunners missing out on European football by just a single point and top four by six, Arsenal need to ensure they stick it out with Arteta, who has been talking up about a big summer for the club in recent weeks.
