Arsneal must have huge regrets over not making January signing – TBR View

Araenal’s latest news regarding their defender Kieran Tierney is crushing, as he’s set to miss a pivotal part of the season.

The Gunners confirmed on their on Wednesday that the 23-year-old won’t return to training for four to six weeks after picking up a knee injury at the weekend in the defeat to Liverpool.

His absence is going to be hard-hitting for a couple of reasons. Not only will Mikel Arteta’s side miss his tenacity and quality on the pitch, but there is practically no cover for him in the squad too.

Scotland international Tierney is the outstanding full-back at the Emirates Stadium, and plays when he’s fit.

But Arsenal have a huge hole in their squad, as there are no like-for-like replacements for him as the left-sided defender.

It’s likely to mean that either Cedric Soares or Bukayo Saka show their versatility by slotting in at left-back, something that’s not ideal ahead of the massive two-legged Europa League quarter-final tie with Slavia Prague.

If Arsenal look back to the January window, they must be kicking themselves they didn’t sign cover at left-back after they allowed Sead Kolasinac to go out on loan.

They were linked with Crystal Palace’s Patrick van Aanholt at the time, who would’ve been a perfect understudy to Tierney during the second half of this season.

According to the in January, Arsenal were eyeing a potential move for 30-year-old Van Aanholt late in the window, albeit nothing ever come to fruition.

The £55,000-a-week () Dutchman is proven as a quality left-back for several years at Premier League level, and not signing the Palace defender looks a mistake.
