‘Standout player’… 24-year-old backed as Arsenal’s Man of the Match vs PSV tonight
Lucy Ward picked out Reiss Nelson as the standout player for Arsenal in their Champions League tie with PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday night.
Ward was speaking on (broadcast on 12/12; 19:09) after the winger did well to create an opportunity for himself during the midway point in the second-half.
Reiss Nelson was one of those to come into Mikel Arteta’s side for the final group-stage game. Of course, Arsenal had already booked their ticket to the knockout stages and secured top spot in their group.

That presented an opportunity to a number of players. And it is probably fair to say that Nelson was one of those who made the most of his chance.

The 24-year-old set up Eddie Nketiah for the opening goal of the game with some superb work down the right-hand side. And he looked particularly lively all evening for the visitors.

Nelson has one of the most daunting tasks within the Arsenal squad. He is, of course, the player who provides cover and competition for Bukayo Saka. And Saka is simply a machine.
But Nelson proved a real point. He completed five dribbles, according to . And remarkably, he made six successful tackles – which was double the amount of the next best player on either side.
It was certainly the kind of performance which would have left Mikel Arteta with some food for thought.
Nelson has been threatening to really break out for some time at the Emirates. He can definitely hold his head up high after his display against PSV.
