Arsenal’s reported January plan looks ominous for Alex Runarsson
It seems fair to say that Alex Runarsson has not made the best start to life at Arsenal following his arrival in the summer.
Runarsson joined shortly after the Gunners took a gamble and sold Emi Martinez. Unfortunately, it does not appear that that gamble has paid off for Mikel Arteta.

Martinez has been a revelation for Aston Villa. Meanwhile, the Iceland international has struggled to put any sort of pressure on Bernd Leno when given an opportunity.
And the early stages of his time in North London culminated with a really difficult night in the Carabao Cup against Manchester City.

It was a night that saw the 25-year-old come in for a lot of criticism. And it now appears that Runarsson may face a fight to hold onto the number two spot.
Arsenal looking to sign new goalkeeper in January?
that one of Arsenal’s January priorities is to sign a new backup goalkeeper.
Of course, there is no guarantee that Runarsson is being demoted. that Matt Macey’s contract expires in the summer. So Arteta may simply be looking for further cover.
But given Runarsson’s form and the fact that they have the knockout stages of the Europa League and a defence of the FA Cup coming up, it does appear that they would benefit from signing a stronger second choice stopper.
There certainly looks to be an opportunity for a new signing. Even if they arrive as Arteta’s third choice, Runarsson – who earns £40,000-a-week, – has arguably left the door open.
He surely cannot afford any major errors in any future appearances.
But if Arsenal are looking to be a little more ambitious in their quest to sign a new goalkeeper, the writing may already be on the wall for the summer signing.
