Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard is everything Tottenham are missing in midfield

Tottenham face Arsenal on Sunday in Nuno Espirito Santo’s first North London derby.

The Gunners go into it off the back of a 1-0 win vs Burnley.

Meanwhile, Tottenham fell to a 3-0 home defeat against Chelsea.

What is becoming more and more clear at Tottenham, though, is that they miss a creative midfielder.

Since Christian Eriksen left the club, things haven’t been the same for the Lilywhites.

At The Emirates, though, Mikel Arteta made the shrewd move to sign Martin Odegaard on a permanent deal over the summer.

The £30m Norwegian midfielder () is everything that Tottenham need.

At just 22-years-old the Arsenal midfielder has got all of the creative abilities that Spurs are lacking.

His ability to play between the lines, thread forwards through on goal and make space for those around him makes him a dangerous player.

At Tottenham the likes of Dele Alli, Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso are the midfielders who are relied upon to create things.

However, that trio pale in comparison to Odegaard when it comes to making chances.

Eriksen was so often the man who made Tottenham tick, and since his departure things haven’t been the same.

Tottenham really missed a trick in not trying to beat Arsenal to the signing of the Norwegian.

This weekend will be the young midfielder’s second game vs Tottenham.

In his first derby against Spurs last season he scored his first goal for Arsenal in a 2-1 win.

His sublime free-kick against Burnley on the weekend was his second league goal for the Gunners.

Free-kick taking being another of Eriksen’s trademarks, it only hits home how much a player like Odegaard is missed at Spurs.

Against Arsenal on Sunday, Spurs could be set to rue not having an Odegaard-type even more.
