Arsenal’s desire to sign 27-year-old seemingly just got more difficult

Arsenal may now struggle to sign Thomas Meunier, with Dani Alves confirming he will leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

The 36-year-old is calling time on his stint in the French capital when his contract expires on June 30.

Alves has enjoyed a good couple of years at the Parc des Princes, adding five trophies to his bulging cabinet.

Speaking after Brazil’s 5-0 demoltion of Peru at the Copa America, Alves said (): “Today I close another cycle in my life, a cycle of victory, learning and experiences.

“I would like to thank the PSG family for the opportunity to together build a page in the history of this club.”

The chase will now be on for clubs to snap up Alves for free, and one would imagine he won’t be short of options considering the quality he still has.

Alves’ exit from PSG is theoretically bad news for Arsenal , who have been chasing Thomas Meunier.

Unai Emery signed the 37-cap Belgian during his time in charge of the French champions and knows the 27-year-old very well.

With Colin Dagba still a rookie, one would imagine Meunier will become the undisputed number one right-back from here on in – unless the club turn to the transfer market, of course.
