Arsenal would get an upgrade on Xhaka if they can land Herrera on a free transfer
Arsenal are ready to battle Paris Saint-Germain for Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera,
Herrera joined Manchester United in 2014 for a fee the at the time was £29m but is available on a free transfer this summer because his contract at Old Trafford is expiring.
The says that PSG are in pole position for the Spaniard, but Unai Emery remains a huge fan of him and is willing to enter the race.
Landing Herrera would be a rare chance to take a player from a top six rival and engineer a free transfer for a player with Premier League experience, who still has plenty more to give.

But would Herrera be an upgrade on Emery’s current midfield options? He has the drive and never-say-die attitude that Arsenal have lacked down the years and that intensity would marry very well with Emery’s demands.
Lucas Torreira looks to be Emery’s preferred holding player, so Herrera would be battling with Arsene Wenger’s choice, Granit Xhaka, for a place.
And Herrera has greater energy, discipline and passing quality than the Swiss international, and has also won trophies to boot.
Torreira and Herrera would be an incredibly energetic duo at the heart of Emery’s midfield, providing a robust springboard for the Gunners side he is looking to put together in his own image.
