Arsenal willing to make transfer ‘exception’ with £42m bid this summer

Edu and his team could now be willing to ignore Arsenal’s transfer strategy this summer to land one key signing for Mikel Arteta.

Right now, Arsenal finally seem to be upping their efforts to improve Arteta’s squad, one that the Spaniard doesn’t appear fully satisfied with in all areas.

Last season William Saliba played every Premier League minute for Arsenal, and Bukayo Saka wasn’t far behind.

That’s not because Arteta didn’t have options to replace his star duo on occasion, rather he didn’t trust their replacements to deliver a similar level.

In that respect, it seems as if Reiss Nelson could leave Arsenal this summer, who is increasingly on the periphery of things in north London.

That’s not to mean that any replacement would then split minutes with Saka, but they would then be able to afford the England star a rest.

Perhaps that situation explains why Arteta would like to sign Nico Williams, who is able to excel on both wings.

All that being said, Williams is not the signing Arsenal are willing to make an ‘exception’ for.

Arsenal happy to ignore Edu’s transfer strategy to sign Riccardo Calafiori this summer

According to , Arsenal are willing to forgo their transfer strategy in order to sign Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna this summer.

Unfortunately, Calafiori’s move to Arsenal has been stalling of late, but there’s still sufficient confidence that it will be concluded.

That being said, The Athletic have now explained that Arsenal are happy to ignore their one in, one out policy in order to sign Calafiori for £42m this summer.

Arsenal’s strategy is to sell those deemed surplus to requirements and replace them with players of higher calibre.

However, without selling the likes of Kieran Tierney or Oleksandr Zinchenko, Arsenal are willing to sign Calafiori regardless.

That wouldn’t be the case for Williams for example, who may need to see either Nelson or Eddie Nketiah depart beforehand.

But in truth, Arsenal supporters will probably be pleased by the club’s overriding policy – broadly believing that Edu hasn’t been recouping fees befitting of the players he’s sold in the past.

Of course, if Arsenal aren’t able to shift some of the names mentioned, it could make for a last-minute rush in August.
