Arsenal want to sign £60m striker who idolised Thierry Henry as a kid
Arsenal are once again being linked with Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin ahead of the January transfer window.
According to , the Gunners have put the Toffees striker back in their shortlist as they look to bolster their attacking ranks in January.
Arsenal are reportedly up against the likes of Newcastle United for Calvert-Lewin, who is returning to form following a nightmare year due to injury.
The 26-year-old has managed seven starts in the Premier League this season. He has four goals and one assist from 11 outings in all competitions.
‘Thierry Henry is my other idol’
Should Calvert-Lewin join Arsenal, he would get the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of a player he idolised in his younger days.
The England international conducted an interview with in 2020 where he revealed that Gunners legend Thierry Henry was his favourite player as a youngster.

Calvert-Lewin admitted that Ronaldinho is “still my favourite player” and deemed him “the best player of all time”, but Henry was the name he wanted on the back of his shirt as a kid.
“Thierry Henry is my other idol,” he said. “Whenever I used to try and get football shirts it was Thierry Henry’s football shirt because he was my favourite player, and I don’t think you can argue with that one.”
Arsenal may well fancy their chances of signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin in January
Arsenal could certainly do with bolstering their attacking ranks with an out-and-out striker. Eddie Nketiah is a good player, but he isn’t Gabriel Jesus standard, so the Gunners could do with a stronger deputy for the Brazilian.
Normally, it’s difficult to sign a top striker in mid-season. Understandably, clubs don’t want to part company with their main goal sources when there’s still everything to play for.
However, Everton are currently in a difficult position. They’ve been given a 10-point deduction after an independent commission found them guilty of breaching the Premier League’s financial fair play rules.
This has seen them drop into the bottom three and, even though they’re just two points from safety, the club could well look to cash in on one of their main assets, who in turn may well want to try his luck at the opposite end of the table.
In the summer of 2022, Everton placed a £60million price tag on Calvert-Lewin.
However, you have to wonder now whether they’ll demand anywhere near as much, considering their situation and the player’s contract having around 18 months to run.
