Arsenal trying to get ‘incredible’ £20m player signed in time for his pre-season return on Monday
Arsenal are ploughing on with their quest to bring in new signings and are now pushing to try and get one done by the time weekend finishes.
The Gunners have moved to sign Riccardo Calafiori so far this summer but have been clear all along that they would add more than one player if they deemed it necessary.
With Emile Smith Rowe now sold to Fulham and Eddie Nketiah getting closer to signing for Marseille, Mikel Arteta appears to have the green light to strengthen further.
And according to a report from , one potential signing is being pushed along.
Arsenal hoping to push Mikel Merino deal through by Monday
According to the report from The Times, Arsenal are wanting to press on with their bid to sign Merino in time for him returning to pre-season on Monday.
Merino is among a group of Euro 2024 players who have had an extended break after Spain won the tournament.

However, he is expected to report back to Real Sociedad on Monday and Arsenal are now looking to get the deal over the line.
It’s reported how Merino has already agreed terms with Arsenal and that all is left is for a fee and payment structure to be agreed between the teams.
Lauded for his ‘‘ performances at the Euros, Merino very much showed his class.
Remarkably, Merino could end up costing as little as for the Gunners due to his contract situation.
Arsenal beginning to push the accelerator
It’s starting to feel like clubs are moving on a bit now with transfer deals and Arsenal are among those clubs putting the pedal to the floor.
A deal to bring Merino in has been on the cards for a few weeks now and he looks like being a smart addition to the ranks.
With Declan Rice excelling going further forward last year and Jorginho not getting any younger, adding a player with the credentials of Merino makes sense.
Arsenal fans, then, will be hoping for some big news on the Spaniard as the weekend progresses.
