‘ESR and £10m’: Some fans react after hearing Arsenal want their £15m star

Arsenal have set their sights on Aston Villa and Brazil midfielder Douglas Luiz, according to .

The outlet claims Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is eager to recruit a holding midfielder for his squad.

Arteta is reportedly a big fan of Luiz, who has impressed for Villa since joining for just £15m in 2019.

The 23-year-old, who arrived from Manchester City, has made 90 appearances in claret-and-blue.

A regular under Dean Smith and now Steven Gerrard, Luiz is indispensable for Villa.

Indeed, his efforts have led to nine senior Brazil caps, as well as the Olympic medal with the U23s last year.

Meanwhile, Arsenal could see some movement on the midfield front in 2022.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles looks set to leave the Emirates, and Mohamed Elneny’s contract expires in the summer.

Therefore, it makes sense to hear Arteta is reportedly eyeing Luiz.

At the same time, he’d be a difficult player to sign, as Villa will be eager to retain his services.

And some Villa fans have already let their Arsenal counterparts know their feelings on the matter:

Chances are Luiz won’t be going anywhere in January – why would Villa part with such a key player mid-season?

If talks are to get any traction, it’ll be in the summer window – and if Arsenal qualify for the Champions League, they’d have more pulling power.
