Arsenal transfer news: Gunners interested in ‘exciting’ attacker after Mudryk blow
reports that Arsenal hold an interest in Brighton attacker Kaoru Mitoma after missing out on Mykhaylo Mudryk.
Mikel Arteta looked set to land his top target in Mudryk after negotiating with Shakhtar Donetsk for around two weeks. But the winger is now set to sign for their London rivals as Chelsea are expected to announce the deal today.
It’s a bitter pill to swallow for Arsenal after it looked like they were in pole position, with the 21-year-old dropping several hints that he wanted a move to the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners missed out on Raphinha over the summer to Barcelona too and now their search for a new wide-forward continues.
And it seems Arteta’s men are admirers of Brighton’s Mitoma, who has really caught the eye during his first season in the Premier League so far.
Arsenal interested in Mitoma
reports that Arsenal do hold an interest in Mitoma after his brilliant performances for Brighton. But they see him as an unrealistic target at this moment in time, with the winger’s teammate Leandro Trossard deemed more-attainable.
Mitoma only signed for the Seagulls from Japanese outfit Kawasaki Frontale just over 18-months ago.
The 25-year-old was sent straight out on loan to Belgium side Union Saint-Gilloise, where he scored eight goals and provided four assists.
The Japanese forward has adapted to Premier League football with ease so far and has already bagged three goals while providing one assist.
Former Brighton boss, Graham Potter, labelled him an ‘’ talent while he was out on loan and it seems the now Chelsea manager was right with his assessment.
TBR View: Arsenal would have to pay over the odds for Mitoma
Mitoma has undoubtedly been impressive for Brighton so far but he is still relatively unproven in the Premier League.
Having only signed for the south coast outfit in 2021, his contract is set to run until 2025 and Arsenal would have to pay a big fee to convince Brighton to sell.
The Gunners would be better off going for a more established option, with the likes of Raphinha and Ferran Torres linked with moves to the Emirates Stadium since the Mudryk news broke.
