Arsenal are set to face competition if they plan to make a move for Julian Brandt in the summer transfer window – .

This summer is going to be a crucial one for Mikel Arteta. And one of the positions that the Gunners must strengthen in is in attacking midfield.

According to recent reports earlier this month, Brandt is one player on Arsenal’s radar. The 25-year-old scored four goals and provided two assists in all competitions for Borussia Dortmund this past season.

He has often played in a slightly deeper midfield role. But he looks to be a potential number 10 signing amid speculation over Martin Odegaard’s future.

But Arsenal may not have a clear run towards his signature. , Lazio are also keen on Brandt.

It is claimed contact between his agent and the club is underway.

Should talks progress well, Brandt could end up working with Maurizio Sarri in Italy. And that may be particularly disappointing for the Gunners.

Sarri could come back to haunt Arsenal amid Brandt transfer interest

. Of course, Arteta endured a disappointing campaign at the Emirates.

Obviously, Arteta remains in charge in North London. And Sarri has now been appointed by the Biancocelesti.

Some may have their doubts about how likely Arsenal going after Sarri ever was. It always seemed hard to imagine him turning up at the Emirates.

Nevertheless, it makes the links all the more intriguing. And it will be fascinating to see where Brandt ends up.

Arsenal certainly need someone who can make things happen in the final third. And Brandt may be a realistic option after a mixed spell in Dortmund.

He may not cost a lot. The Bundesliga side to bring him to Westfalenstadion.

But Lazio’s interest may not do Arsenal many favours should they look to do a cut-price deal.
