Arsenal think they can sign ‘brilliant’ player for £12m this summer in discounted deal
Arsenal have a chance to sign one of their targets for a bargain fee this summer.
The Gunners are getting busy in the transfer market after a very quiet June. They have turned David Raya’s loan into a permanent deal and have launched bids for new players too.
Arsenal are in talks to sign Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna, while Fabrizio Romano revealed that the Gunners have made a bid for Ajax’s Tommy Setford as well.
Mikel Arteta and Edu are also set to bid again for Dan Bentley after seeing their first offer rejected by Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Now, there is an update on another player Arsenal are really interested in.
What Arsenal think about Joan Garcia ahead of potential move
Arsenal are definitely in the market for a new goalkeeper.
Raya is the undisputed number one having completed a permanent switch to the Emirates. Aaron Ramsdale is currently his deputy, while Karl Hein is below them in the pecking order.
That, on paper, is a solid trio of goalkeepers to have in the squad, but it’s not as simple as it looks for Arteta and Edu.
Ramsdale could leave Arsenal in search of a number-one role elsewhere, while Hein is expected to be sent out on loan in the 2024/25 season.
Bentley seems like the man Arsenal want as their third-choice goalkeeper, but if Ramsdale leaves, their preferred choice is Joan Garcia of Espanyol.
That’s according to , who claim that Arsenal’s goalkeeping coach Inaki Cana along with others at the club like Garcia and believe that he is ‘a suitable profile to deputise for Raya’ at the Emirates.
The report reveals that the goalkeeper’s release clause has gone up to £21 million (€25m) from £12.6 million (€15m) following Espanyol’s promotion last season.
Arsenal, however, believe they can sign Garcia for considerably less than his current release clause – perhaps even less than his old clause which was worth £12.6 million. That would be a bargain.

One thing needs to happen before Arsenal decide to sign Garcia
Garcia is a really talented young goalkeeper.
The Spaniard, still only 23 years old, played a massive part in helping Espanyol achieve promotion in the 2023/24 season. He showed the ‘‘ ability he possesses.
Arsenal are right to target Garcia, but the Gunners are not going to make a move to sign him this summer unless one thing happens – Ramsdale leaves.
It is still unclear whether the Englishman will be able to find a new club in this window as Arsenal want to recoup the £30 million they spent on him and have no interest in allowing him to leave on loan.
It will be interesting to see what will happen, but if Ramsdale stays, there’s no need for the Gunners to go after Garcia this summer.
