Arsenal think £55m player wants to sign for them and play for Mikel Arteta

It’s clear what is at the top of Arsenal’s transfer agenda at the moment.

Indeed, more than anything else right now, Arsenal need a striker.

Gabriel Jesus’ injury has left the Gunners really short up front, and the north London club are scouring the market for fresh options.

Evan Ferguson has been linked to Arsenal, while Arsenal’s dream target is Alexander Isak.

Arsenal have been linked with Benjamin Sesko too, and while Sesko isn’t seen as attainable this month, Arsenal do think they’re in a strong position to sign the RB Leipzig star at some point.

Indeed, speaking on Curtis Shaw TV, Ben Jacobs has shared an update on Benjamin Sesko and Arsenal, and he claims that the Gunners believe that Sesko is sold on the idea of joining the north London club.

Benjamin Sesko sold on Arsenal move

According to Jacobs, Arsenal believe that Sesko is sold on joining the Gunners.

Arsenal believe Sesko likes the Arsenal project, he likes Mikel Arteta and he likes the idea of moving to London too.

“This isn’t so much about the player having his head turned, this is a player who knows he can leave in the summer to many big clubs,” Jacobs said.

“What would have to change is the player’s perspective that now is the time to move.

“Benjamin Sesko and Arsenal is one to watch because the interest is strong, and unlike Isak, the package is significantly less.

“This is one Arsenal will work on in 2025. At the moment I’ll be honest I think the situation is unclear. I think there’s the small window of opportunity with Sesko where if Arsenal went big now there might be an opportunity. More likely in the summer.

“Sesko had offers from Arsenal, United and Chelsea and I’m told that he picked Arsenal as a project, then it became a choice between Arsenal and extending at Leipzig, and that extension he felt was better for his development.

“Arsenal feel the player is sold on the project, sold on Arteta and sold on London.

“Yes, if an opportunity came where Sesko came now and RB Leipzig said, you can sign him now, Arsenal, financially speaking, would be able to do it.

“The appreciations at the club is if they escalate something that is a big financial outlay that was planned for the summer, now, that will have a knock on effect for the summer and they will say they spent some of their money early.

Why did Benjamin Sesko reject Arsenal?

As Jacobs says, Sesko picked Arsenal above his other suitors in the summer only to stay at RB Leipzig.

So, why did Sesko decide not to move?

Sesko himself has explained this situation.

Indeed, Sesko says he stayed at Leipzig for the good of his development.

“I thought it through very well. I believe I made the right decision. I wanted to gain more experience, learn more, and not rush things,” Sesko said.

“Leipzig is an excellent club that can provide what I need for the next step. Leipzig’s vision is clear; everything is geared towards growth, progress, and high goals. I felt it was right to decide this way.”

“I can’t deny such things don’t get into your subconscious, it’s probably quite normal, human.

“Still, I remained calm despite everything. I got through that turbulent period and approached the Euros fully focused.”

We’ve seen a number of players do this in the past.

Erling Haaland stayed a season longer at Borussia Dortmund than he needed to, while Declan Rice stayed at West Ham for an extra year despite tons of transfer interest the summer prior.

Sesko will move when he is ready to, and, by all accounts, that could well be this summer, and when Sesko does decide to move, it may well be Arsenal who are at the front of the queue for the £55m man.
