Arsenal target Hakan Calhanoglu was once called the ‘new Mesut Ozil’
Arsenal have once again been linked with a move to sign Turkey’s Hakan Calhanoglu.
The 28-year-old plays his football in Inter Milan these days, and he has had a decent season. He will enter the final 18 months of his contract in January, and that has given rise to rumours that he’s of interest to several clubs – including Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.

Arsenal target Hakan Calhanoglu was once called the ‘new Mesut Ozil’
Italian outlet revealed this week that Arsenal and Unai Emery’s Aston Villa are both interested in signing Calhanoglu in 2023.
The outlet reveals that the Nerazzurri are not too keen to let him go, but if interested clubs like Arsenal and Villa table a bid in the region of £25 million, it could change their mind.
Calhanoglu has had a decent season so far for Inter. He has scored three goals and provided five assists – including one each against Barcelona in the Champions League.
The Turk’s rise to fame is no surprise at all to people who watched him when he was young. Karlsruher coaching legend Winfried Schafer even saw a bit of Mesut Ozil in Calhanoglu many years ago.
He said, as quoted by : “Calhanoglu is the new Ozil.
“Hakan is an exceptional boy. He has a lot of confidence and courage. He is simply great.”

TBR View:
Calhanoglu is a fine player, but we just can’t see Arsenal making a move to sign him.
The Gunners’ transfer philosophy over the last three windows have seen them sign players who are either 25 years of age or younger. That has worked brilliantly for them, and it makes no sense to change that now.
To add to that, Arsenal need more of a cover for Thomas Partey in the middle of the park. The Gunners have no like-for-like backup for the Ghanaian, and Calhanoglu, as good as he is, is just not that player.
It will be interesting to see who Arsenal will go after in the January transfer window. If it’s Calhanoglu, we’ll be shocked.
