Arsenal supporters drool over Valencia star despite heavy Real Madrid defeat

Real Madrid cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win over Valencia on Thursday evening to keep the pressure on Barcelona after a marvelous second-half display – but Arsenal supporters were still impressed with a Valencia midfielder.

A stunning brace from Karim Benzema came either side of Marcos Asensio netting with his first touch after coming off the bench. Benzema opened the scoring after an incisive pass from Luka Modric saw him net, when one on one.

Asensio came off the bench and a stunning burst of pace saw Ferland Mendy reach the byline to chip the ball to Asensio, who volleyed home. Benzema made it three with a sublime first touch and volley.

However, Valencia were decent on the counter attack and had chances – perhaps undeserving of such a heavy defeat. Midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia was excellent, especially in the first half.

The 27-year-old powerhouse has reignited his career after a difficult couple of spells. His array of passing, strength and long-range shooting were on show – including a pile driver from 30 yards that saw Thibaut Courtois save well.

He could not stop Real Madrid from cruising to three points but many Arsenal supporters were impressed with the former Inter Milan and Monaco star – discussing whether he would be a good addition to Mikel Arteta’s side.

Kondogbia has been linked to Arsenal in the past, Arsene Wenger wanted him in 2015. He joined Valencia in 2018 for £22million (), and has since played 90 times – after initially joining on loan in 2017.
