Arsenal should use Elneny to help land Pope to replace Cech this summer
Arsenal may use some of their fringe players in any potential deal to land Nick Pope from Burnley this summer,
They that Burnley want £10m for their third-choice goalkeeper but if Arsenal are not willing to pay that much for a back-up stopper, putting some squad players into the deal is a possibility.
Given the contrasting styles that the Clarets and the Gunner utilise, it’s tough to see too many of their players being of interest to Sean Dyche, but Mohamed Elneny is among them.
back in December that the combative 26-year-old was told to leave the club in January and although that didn’t materialise, it would be a shock if he lasted beyond the summer at the Emirates Stadium.
Elneny is the kind of tenacious, ball-winning midfielder Dyche loves and still has plenty to offer in the Premier League – he is just not a good fit for what Unai Emery is trying to do at Arsenal.
And £10m seems steep for a relegation contender to be asking for their third-choice goalkeeper, even accounting for the premium that comes with buying English talent.
So if Arsenal can get that price down by shuffling Elneny onto Turf Moor, it’s something Emery should be looking to explore as he cuts his cloth accordingly in the summer window.
