Arsenal should swoop for Newcastle United star Martin Dubravka if Rafa Benitez lands top target Kevin Trapp

Newcastle United have been linked with a new goalkeeper over the weekend. , Rafa Benitez has identified two top targets, including PSG goalkeeper Kevin Trapp, if the Bin Zayed Group completes their takeover.

If the takeover happens, Newcastle will be armed with extra funds. Trapp has been identified as a primary target to bolster the goalkeeper department.

The Germany international is out of favour at PSG and spent last season on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt. But he impressed and nearly led Frankfurt to the Europa League final, prompting Benitez to take an interest.

If Newcastle sign Trapp, that casts doubt over their other goalkeepers; Martin Dubravka, Rob Elliot, Karl Darlow and Freddie Woodman would all face uncertain immediate futures.

This could prompt Arsenal to reignite their interest in Dubravka. that the Slovakia international is wanted by Juventus and Arsenal.

The Gunners need a new stopper after Petr Cech retired. Bernd Leno is their number one option but Unai Emery needs someone to provide competition for the starting spot.

Dubravka could be the perfect man for the job – at the right price. The 30-year-old has one-and-a-half seasons of Premier League experience and produced some fine performances for the Magpies.

If Newcastle sign Trapp, that could relegate Dubravka to the bench. As a result, Arsenal could look to swoop for him as Leno’s back-up option with a view to pushing for the number one jersey.
