Arsenal should switch reported attention on James Maddison to Leicester teammate Wilfred Ndidi

Mikel Arteta has shown some positive signs since his arrival as Arsenal manager, but there is no doubt he has a long way to go if he wants to get the club back competing near the top end of the table.

The Gunners have two wins, two draws and one defeat so far during the Spaniard’s reign in charge at the Emirates Stadium.

It looks like they have tightened up slightly in defence, while going forward they have the quality in their ranks to be explosive on their day.

Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira appear to be striking a decent midfield combination together, while there is also the likes of Matteo Guendouzi and Joe Willock.

But Arsenal need to aim bigger if they want to get back in the Champions League spot.

According to the Guardian, Leicester playmaker James Maddison is on the Arsenal radar and they are prepared to battle Manchester United for his signature.

Maddison, 23, has nine goals in 25 games across all competitions this season and is a brilliant technician impressing in the top-flight.

But Arteta looks like he could be getting the best out of Mesut Ozil again, which would ease pressure on needing to find a creator.

Arsenal should be aiming to bolster in the centre of the park and Maddison’s Leicester teammate Wilfred Ndidi should be targeted.

Ndidi is arguably the most underrated player at the King Power Stadium and has played a key role in the club’s success this season, as they look in pole position for a Champions League finish.

The 23-year-old is a defensive midfielder that is a master at breaking up play and he’s extremely assured in possession too.

He is a Nigeria international that is dominant in most games he features in with his strength and physical presence, which is why he would add some real steel and quality to the Arsenal team.
