Arsenal should sign ‘magician’ with new £15m price tag; tormented Leno last season – TBR View

Matheus Pereira is a player who will be hotly chased this summer following West Brom’s relegation to the Championship. And Arsenal should be one of these clubs.

The Gunners have seen first-hand what the Brazilian playmaker can do. Pereira tormented Bernd Leno and the Arsenal defence last season at the Emirates Stadium with a goal and a strike from distance that was inches away from being a goal of the season contender.

And with that the Baggies will accept just £15m for the former Sporting Lisbon trickster, the Gunners should be doing everything in their powers to sign Pereira this summer.

A price-cut alternative to previous targets

The Gunners were heavily linked with a move for former Norwich City winger Emi Buendia for over a year. But in Arsenal fashion, they lost out on the Championship superstar as Aston Villa swooped in to sign the playmaker.

Furthermore, with indicating that Martin Odegaard is likely to stay at Real Madrid next season, Arsenal’s summer plans could not have got off to a more disastrous start.

The clubs two prime creative targets are now off the shop window. Although the transfer window shuts in late August, getting business done early will be a priority for Mikel Arteta.

And this is where Pereira comes in.

Indeed, with a £15m price tag, it would be hard to find a better-valued player this summer for Arsenal. And with Pereira hitting 11 goals and assisting six in the Premier League last season, the Brazilian has proven he has the quality to perform in the English top-flight.

His versatility to play on both wings and behind the striker makes Pereira a perfect alternative to Buendia and Odegaard. But with other clubs circling the 25-year-old, Arsenal will have to act fast to sign the West Brom superstar.
