Arsenal should offer Thomas Partey to secure deal for ‘extraordinary’ £65m Barcelona player

Although Thomas Partey has started the season as regular starter for Arsenal, it wasn’t always certain that the midfielder would remain in north London this summer.

Arsenal were open to selling Partey for the right price, perhaps because of the injuries the 31-year-old has suffered since joining from Atletico Madrid in 2020.

Partey has mostly been excellent on the pitch for Arsenal when fully fit, but unfortunately that’s not often been the case.

The most leagues games Partey has started for Arsenal during his four seasons in north London to date has been 28, with the midfielder starting just nine times in Mikel Arteta’s title challenge last term.

Quite simply, Arsenal haven’t been able to rely upon Partey for long periods.

And amid that Barcelona are now one of a few top European clubs interested in signing Partey in January or beyond, perhaps there could be an opportunity for Arsenal.

Arsenal should use Thomas Partey in audcacious swap deal for Frenkie De Jong

New Barcelona manager Hansi Flick presumably wants Partey as his new number six, the Ghanaian does have an excellent track record in La Liga previously.

Right now, that’s a position that will presumably be taken by 27-year-old Frenke de Jong once he’s back fit from an ankle injury.

De Jong left Ajax for Barcelona back in 2019 for a fee of around , and has witnessed a fairly turbulent period at the club.

The Dutchman perhaps hasn’t quite realised the success he may have imagined when first moving to such an historic team, fortunes that appear to be picking up under Flick.

That being said, if Barcelona want Partey – why shouldn’t Arsenal try and get De Jong?

De Jong previously ‘dreamed’ of playing for Arsenal

De Jong was annoyed by exit rumours this summer, saying he wasn’t ready to leave Barcelona.

However, De Jong also admitted that he of playing for Arsenal in the past – and the club would surely like to have him right now.

Looking ahead to next summer, it seems feasible that Edu will invest heavily into a new striker and a number six.

Arsenal want Alexander Isak as their new striker according to reports, perhaps lining up the famous #14 shirt for the Newcastle United goalscorer.

But there’s seemingly no one candidate to take the number six role just yet, and if Barcleona want Partey, Arsenal should make their play for De Jong.

The ‘’ Dutchman is one of the very few elite players in his position, a midfielder who arguably still has untapped potential.
