Arsenal should make their move after £10m star hands in transfer request at Premier League club

Arsenal have no time to waste with the transfer window getting closer to shutting by the minute, with a breakdown in talks on any deal possibly leaving Mikel Arteta short.

One position that’s been flirted with throughout the summer transfer window has been in between the sticks, with Aaron Ramsdale attracting interest from numerous clubs as he seeks regular football.

This led to Arsenal submitting a couple of bids for Wolves goalkeeper Dan Bentley, which came to nothing as the Midlands club were far from happy with the offer on the table.

So, with the transfer window ticking down, fans may be starting to wonder what the goalkeeping situation actually is at the Emirates.

Well, has the answers as he stated on his YouTube channel that Edu still very much wants one.

“That is something that is on the agenda for Arsenal. I’ve long expected it to happen and I’m still not ruling it out.”

Arsenal have to make a move for Crystal Palace’s Sam Johnstone before the deadline

Sam Johnstone handed in a earlier on this month at Crystal Palace and they value him at just £10 million.

The Englishman would count as a homegrown player which was part of the reason the Gunners were looking to sign Dan Bentley, having come through the Arsenal academy.

He’s appeared 66 times in the Premier League and has four England caps to his name, so experience at the top-flight won’t be an issue either.

Also, Eddie Nketiah looks set to sign for Crystal Palace, which provides Edu with the perfect opportunity to open talks over Johnstone.

However, they’ll need to be quick as Wolves appear the current leaders to sign him.

Comparing Dan Bentley to Sam Johnstone

Dan Bentley has never been the first choice goalkeeper at Wolves as Jose Sa continues to be called upon. He does have seven Premier League appearances to his name, but 12 goals were conceded in that time and fans at Molineux were far from impressed with him in pre-season.

Sam Johnstone has struggled to get a look-in at Crystal Palace since Dean Henderson joined last summer, but there’s no doubting his qualities. He was hailed as ‘very decent’ by Steve Bruce during his time at West Brom where he made a name for himself before the move to the capital.

Wolves wanted £1 million for Bentley which seems a low value for a Premier League goalkeeper, but some would argue that he’s not at the standard of the top-flight and has very little to show.

Whereas, £10 million in this day and age for a proven and experienced back-up goalkeeper seems a bargain, especially when you consider the English tax that most clubs put on players.
