Arsenal scout names the former Hale End sensation who could have been a star, he’s now in non-league

Arsenal’s academy is one of the top youth setups in the country but some players just won’t quite live up to their potential.

Gunners fans are living the dream right now having seen a true homegrown hero emerge through the club’s ranks.

Bukayo Saka is the toast of North London right now… well, at least the red side of it.

Saka has become the go-to man for both club and country, showing incredible consistency for a long period of time.

The winger has even made a great start to this season with Alan Shearer hailing Saka as an ‘amazing player’ after bagging a goal and an assist against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Saka is now the poster boy for any young talent emerging in the Hale End ranks, but reaching his levels will not be easy.

Arsenal scout on Kaylen Hinds

There are many tales of Arsenal talents not quite living up to their potential.

Fans will remember hype around Fran Merida, Gedion Zelalem and Jermaine Pennant but they didn’t quite make the desired impact at Arsenal.

Even Charlie Patino is now being sold by Arsenal to Deportivo La Coruna having failed to break through.

Arsenal youth scout Joe Black has now responded when asked to name the player he is surprised didn’t become a superstar.

Black’s answer whilst speaking to was clear – Kaylen Hinds.

Hinds joined Arsenal at Under-14 level from Leyton Orient and Black saw his rise in the Arsenal ranks.

Black – who has picked out Arsenal talent Max Dowman for praise – admitted that Hinds not becoming a star at Arsenal or elsewhere still ‘baffles’ him to this day.

Black feels that Hinds was the ‘best player’ that just never really ‘made it’ as a senior player and he is still scratching his head about Hinds to this day.

Arsenal tried to help Hinds in terms of the demands around football but his career just never reached the heights Arsenal expected.

“I think the main one for me, that still baffles my head, is Kaylen Hinds,” said Black. “I think he’s probably, I would say, in my opinion, the best player that I’ve seen that hasn’t ‘made it’. Kaylen Hinds, definitely.”

“He was at Wolfsburg, Ljungberg took him with him. I just think… from outside looking in, I don’t know if he had that much of a support network around him, because the talent was there, 100%, and I think Arsenal tried to help him but yeah, that’s one that I still scratch my head today about,” he added.

Who has Kaylen Hinds played for?

Hinds spent time on loan at Stevenage in 2017 as Arsenal looked to give him valuable first-team action.

The striker then made a big move, leaving Arsenal for VfL Wolfsburg as he followed Andries Jonker and Freddie Ljungberg.

Arsenal brought in around £2million for Hinds according to the , but the forward only managed two first-team appearances for the club.

After a loan spell with Greuther Furth, Hinds returned to England with Watford in 2019 but played just one senior game for the Hornets.

Now 26, Hinds has bounced around non-league clubs over the last three years, turning out for Aldershot Town, Welling United, Hayes and Yeading United, Haringey Borough and Hemel Hempstead Town.

Hinds was a real sensation as a kid, scoring at youth level with England but just not quite mirroring the German success of Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham.
