Arsenal: Sanchez happy at club; Chilean linked with Pjanic swap; Welbeck will be an asset
Alexis Sanchez could be ready to sign a new contract at Arsenal, despite the contrasting reports about his future. The Chilean has just 17 months left on his current contract and there have been doubts about whether he will want to extend his stay in North London. However, as per quotes in , he has stated that he is happy at the club and that could provide the impetus that the club needs to agree a new contract with their star man.
“I believe we have the players and the quality to win many things. I feel really happy and comfortable at the club. I want to give the fans a new title.”
These are great quotes and do suggest that Sanchez does want to stay at the club. Although they have been given to the club’s official YouTube channel. They wouldn’t show any potentially damaging quotes and there could be a degree of bias. It is hugely important that Alexis Sanchez does agree to a new contract as he is the club’s most important player and they will struggle to replace him with a player of similar quality. The next few weeks should allow us to learn a lot more about his future, either way.
There are a number of clubs interested in the Chilean attacker, with that Juventus may try and do a swap deal involving Miralem Pjanic. The Bosnian midfielder has been linked with the Gunners this month and could be seen as a potential long term replacement for Santi Cazorla, but they won’t want to lose Sanchez in order to get him. Juventus would prefer not to let Pjanic go, but also know that the midfielder gives them some leverage in the race for Sanchez.
This further underlines the importance of extending Sanchez’s contract, as if they leave it up in the air for much longer, clubs will begin to circle. The Chilean is one of the most exciting players in the Premier League and there won’t be a shortage of interest in him during the summer if his contract situation isn’t resolved. Although it would be good for Arsenal to soften the blow of losing Sanchez with the arrival of another great player like Pjanic, it would be seen as a disappointment as the Chilean is their most important player at the moment.
. He has never properly settled at Arsenal due to some difficulties with injuries, but he does have something to offer and could become an important player for the club over the coming months. He does have something a little bit different to Olivier Giroud, in that he has lots of energy and has a knack of making an impact from the bench.
“He’s not a big goalscorer but his energy and the ambition he’ll have to prove himself make him a real asset to the squad”
Arsenal need some of their fringe players to step up and make an impact if they are to finish in the top four again. They can’t be overly reliant on Alexis Sanchez, Olivier Giroud and Mesut Ozil, which is why they will be happy Welbeck is back. He has had some good displays for the club in the past and will be eager to remind the footballing public at large about his ability. The Englishman is now reaching a crucial period of his career and will be hoping to move on from the disappointment of the last few years. A good second half of the season will be crucial to achieve that.
