Arsenal round-up: £80m bid for Frenchman expected; PSG reignite Sanchez interest; Wilshere could leave
Arsene Wenger is reportedly planning a record-breaking move for Monaco’s Thomas Lemar. The France international has been a primary target for the Gunners this window and, according to the , the London club are willing to offer around £80 million for the 21-year-old.
This bid is dependent on Arsenal selling a number of fringe players, however. The Mail’s report suggests Kieran Gibbs, Carl Jenkinson, Calum Chambers, Mathieu Debuchy, Wojciech Szczesny, Lucas Perez, Jack Wilshere and Olivier Giroud could all be sold to fund the Lemar offer.
Gibbs and Jenkinson have both been linked with a move to newly promoted Newcastle while Chambers is wanted by Frank de Boer’s Crystal Palace. Frenchman Debuchy has been told he has no future at the club and, with a year left on his contract, the Gunners are willing to let him leave for free.
Perez and Szczesny are expected to leave English football with the Spaniard a target of Deportivo La Coruna and Fenerbache, while the Polish goalkeeper is closing on a move to Juventus.
Jack Wilshere, who spent last season with Bournemouth on loan, has an uncertain future after breaking his ankle while Giroud may leave Arsenal after compatriot Alexandre Lacazette joined for a club-record fee.
If the Gunners were to ship off these fringe players, a huge bid for Lemar could tempt Monaco into selling their star. So far, the French Champions have stood firm, refusing to let the winger leave.
With Wenger trying to ship off a number of his men, one star he won’t want to lose is Alexis Sanchez. Yet, with one year left on his current contract, his future is far from certain.
Paris Saint Germain have rejuvenated their interest in the Chilean, with the French club making contact with the forward’s agent according to the . The Parisien side want to quickly thrash out personal terms with the winger if they can agree a fee with Arsenal.
The news comes after PSG’s attempts to sign Kylian Mbappe failed, so the capital side have switched their attention to another world-class talent in Alexis Sanchez. The Mirror suggest Manchester City are also in the race for the Chile international.
Jack Wilshere, as previously mentioned, like Sanchez, is another star with an uncertain future. The Englishman is currently recovering from a broken ankle, yet his injury hasn’t done much to put off potential suitors.
Sky Italia, as referenced by and , have reported that Sampdoria have made an offer of £6 million, plus £1.5 million of add-ons, for the England international.
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace are also keen on bringing Wilshere in on loan, according to . The deal is dependent on Wilshere’s contract status, however.
The Gunners will loan the midfielder out if he extends his deal with the club, if not, Wilshere will either be sold this summer or stay with the London club.
