Arsenal target Ezequiel Fernandez – factfile
At just 21 years of age, Ezequiel Fernandez already has 47 senior club appearances and one club trophy under his belt.
He won the Supercopa Argentina in 2021-22, as well as the Under-17 South American championship with his nation in 2019.
A year ago, the listed Fernandez as the second-best young defensive midfielder in the world, with only Pedri of Barcelona ahead of him.
Fernandez and Juan Sforza of Newell’s Old Boys “represent great opportunities for potential buyers”, they added in their report.
In terms of Fernandez’s style of play, Tim Vickery claimed that there were similarities between the reported Arsenal target and Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez.
Vickery wrote on : “Enzo’s career gained momentum with a loan spell, so did Ezequiel’s, who spent last year at Tigre. Both are central midfielders. Ezequiel… is left-footed and bristling with quality.”
Vickery went on to add: “Ezequiel might need careful handling. The youngster is still raw and erratic, and after the arrival of new coach Jorge Almiron he has spent much of his time as a second-half substitute.
“But the potential is undeniable, and this year’s Libertadores is an excellent opportunity to cast an eye on the development of a fascinating talent.”
All in all, Fernandez seems like a great shout for Arsenal. He’s a top talent with his entire career ahead of him and seems to be available for a bargain price. Let’s see what happens in the coming weeks.
