Arsenal reportedly want Premier League attacker that Patrick Vieira recently hammered

Arsenal are reportedly interested in raiding Newcastle United for in-form winger Allan Saint-Maximin this summer – but Patrick Vieira recently criticised the Frenchman before selling him to the Toon.

Saint-Maximin, 23, has been in excellent form of late for Newcastle, shining since the restart. He has had a hand in 11 goals during his 26 league and cup appearances – scoring four times and creating seven assists.

That form has alerted many. t Arsenal and Napoli are interested in the France Under-21 international, who cost Newcastle just £16.5million last summer from Vieira’s Nice. Contact has been made.

A few months before Saint-Maximin swapped Nice for Newcastle, Invincibles skipper Vieira delivered a very harsh verdict of his winger in the public domain – claiming that the winger was not putting in the hard graft at Nice.

“Allan’s problem is that sadly he thinks that talent is enough to go to the highest level. And he needs to understand that he needs to work, to make sacrifices. He needs to suffer.

“Sadly, he has not yet understood that.” Vieira said, in April 2019.

TBR’s view – Would Saint-Maximin boost Arsenal?

There is no doubt that Saint-Maximin has taken like a duck to water in the Premier League. Perhaps his mentality has changed since swapping France for the Premier League – but he is certainly excelling at Newcastle.

No doubt, he is worth far more than the fee Newcastle paid for his services. But with Nicolas Pepe beginning to show why Arsenal paid £72million and Bukayo Saka starring on the left, would Saint-Maximin start?

The Gunners are in with a shout of Europa League football and Saint-Maximin would certainly get game time – but he is best served to stay at Newcastle for the time being.
