Arsenal reportedly want French playmaker that Robert Pires urged to join Liverpool

Arsenal have reportedly reignited their interest in signing Nabil Fekir this summer after missing out on the Frenchman last summer – a player that Gunners legend Robert Pires once urged Liverpool to sign.

Arsenal are after Fekir this summer, just a year after he left Lyon to join Real Betis for a bargain £17million (). The Gunners are keen to bring in a replacement for Dani Ceballos, as per the report.

It is believed a permanent deal for Ceballos is unlikely this summer, with the Spain international struggling to show what he is all about on a consistent basis. Injury hampered his progress during the midway point of the campaign.

Fekir, meanwhile, has impressed since swapping Lyon for Betis. At the Spanish side, he has scored seven goals and created six more from attacking midfield in just 22 La Liga outings. At Lyon, he was involved in more than 100 goals.

With doubts over Mesut Ozil’s future, Joe Willock hardly the answer and Emile Smith-Rowe on loan at Huddersfield, a number 10 could be ideal for the Gunners – and Fekir might the perfect addition for Arteta.

That argument is only strengthened by Pires’ comments about Fekir two years ago, when the player was on the verge of a big-money transfer to Liverpool – which fell through at the last stage. Pires urged The Reds to complete a deal for Fekir.

“Fekir would be a good fit for the Premier League and a great signing for Liverpool,” . “Fekir is a great player and would be a good signing for Liverpool.”
