Arsenal reportedly set to go ‘all-in’ for ‘the best midfielder in the world’ in January

Arsenal tried to sign a new midfielder late on in the summer transfer window.

However, the Gunners’ efforts to bring Douglas Luiz to the Emirates Stadium fell just short.

Now, with the January window approaching, Arsenal are reportedly eyeing “the best midfielder in the world”.

The player in question is Lazio and Serbia star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

In October, reported that Arsenal are very keen to sign the 27-year-old.

Apparently, the Gunners are even willing to send Albert Sambi Lokonga to the Italian capital as a part of the deal.

Corriere della Sera – via and – has now added fuel to the speculation.

Apparently, Arsenal are pressing on Milinkovic-Savic and are willing to go ‘all-in’ to acquire his signature next month.

The player has been reluctant to leave Italy up to now.

However, with Arsenal coming forward, he could ‘consider’ joining them in January if they were to make an offer.

The report doesn’t mention how much the Gunners could be expected to pay for Milinkovic-Savic.

‘Guess how much he’s worth’

However, Lazio president Claudio Lotito’s valuation back in October was an eye-watering £105million (€120million).

In addition, Milinkovic-Savic did well at the World Cup, despite Serbia exiting at the group stage.

The Lazio president told , as quoted by : “Guess how much he’s worth.

“He scored a goal at the World Cup with his ankle injured, and he’s the best midfielder in the world.”

That said, Milinkovic-Savic’s contract will enter the final 18 months of his contract at the start of 2023.

If he doesn’t pen his new deal, he will have just a year left on his contract next summer.

His valuation will surely come down then. But this could well be offset by a potential bidding war.

Milinkovic-Savic is definitely up there with the best midfielders in the Serie A.

The 27-year-old scored 11 goals and picked up 12 assists in all competitions last season for Lazio.

And in this campaign, he boasts five goals and seven assists so far after 20 games for his club.
