Arsenal reportedly made January bid for striker, now he could return to haunt them – TBR View

Edinson Cavani could be handed his first Manchester United start on Sunday afternoon after coming on as a substitute against RB Leipzig and Chelsea – and he could haunt Arsenal, after the Gunners’ failed January pursuit.

Cavani, 33, joined Manchester United on a free transfer after his contract at PSG expired. The Uruguayan powerhouse scored a whopping 200 goals in 301 goals for the French champions, but Thomas Tuchel opted against extending his contract.

Manchester United eventually pounced, with Cavani’s future being up in the air for much of the past 12 months. Indeed, in January that Arsenal made an offer to sign the striker – with PSG open to selling him.

However, a move failed to materialise and he could now come back to haunt Arsenal on Sunday when the two sides go head to head at Old Trafford. That is because Cavani has since signed a two-year deal at United, worth £200,000 a week ().

Arsenal are lacking in options at centre-back with David Luiz, Pablo Mari, Rob Holding and Calum Chambers all injured. It means Gabriel and Shkodran Mustafi could start on Sunday, but Sead Kolasinac played at centre-back on Thursday.

Cavani, if he starts, will surely back himself to take advantage of Arsenal’s lack of options and after the Gunners missed out on signing the South American forward in January – he could now come back to haunt them this Sunday.
