Arsenal could now make a late bid for £100m forward compared to Alan Shearer
Arsenal look like they could be making a late play to bring in a new attacker this window and it could see them spend heavily.
The Gunners have long been in the market for a new striker as talk of them lacking a ‘proper number nine’ has dominated the last few windows.
The likes of Dusan Vlahovic and more have been linked in the last few years but ultimately, it has fallen on Kai Havertz to lead the line.
Havertz has done well in being that striker for Mikel Arteta but the rumour mill keeps on producing links to new attacking players.
Alex Crook has claimed today that Nico Williams could be a late target, while reports earlier in the day have suggested a blockbuster move for Evan Ferguson could be on Arsenal’s radar.
Indeed, it is the deal for Ferguson which will intrigue Arsenal fans given he is a number nine by trade.
And based on previous praise of him, he could be quite the signing.
Arsenal could land the new Alan Shearer in Evan Ferguson
Much has been made of Evan Ferguson ever since he burst onto the scene at Brighton under Roberto De Zerbi.
The 19-year-old Irishman has been out of the picture a bit through injury so far this year but it’s clear as day Ferguson is a player with all the tools to be a top forward.

Of course, comparisons are always there and they don’t come much more complimentary for a striker than being compared to Alan Shearer.
But that’s what Chris Sutton said about Ferguson. Speaking about the Brighton man back in September of 2023, Sutton made the comparison.
“He reminds me of a young Alan Shearer. That’s what I see when I look at Evan Ferguson. I had the best seat in the house to watch Alan score a bundle of goals for Blackburn. The natural feel to his finishing, his physicality, his positioning,” Sutton .
“Ferguson is only 18 but already he is displaying the attributes which made Alan a total menace for Premier League defenders.”
In addition, Arsenal legend Ian Wright has also been more than vocal in his appreciation of Ferguson.
“Oh my gosh, there’s no way I’m not going to say I’d take him in a heartbeat [at Arsenal]. We will see how it goes,” Wright said last season.
Big money needed
Of course, for Arsenal to sign Evan Ferguson, we’re going to be looking at serious money.
Brighton sold Moises Caicedo to Chelsea for more than £100m and that’s how the Seagulls operate, in that they want big money for their top stars.
A price of around has been mentioned in the past and it would be no surprise to see Brighton demand that right now.
Quite whether Arsenal have the capability to go that high, remains to be seen.
But with Ferguson still only 19, the investment opportunity might be too good to turn down if there is a sniff of this deal being doable.
